Dr. Faerber’s surgical background, and his ability to reconstruct facial structures damaged through trauma, makes him particularly effective in conducting elective facial cosmetic surgery for the improvement of problems due to unwanted facial features or aging.
These procedures may include face lifts, eyelid surgeries, cosmetic changes to the lips, scar revisions, and corrections of birth deformities. Chin and neck surgery can dramatically improve lower facial aging.
Most of these procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis in the office, under local anesthesia and sedation. Some procedures may require the use of an outpatient or same day surgery center or hospital.
Is Cosmetic Surgery Right for You?
Facial cosmetic surgery is performed to correct physical malformations resulting from aging, disease, trauma and birth defects, to improve appearance, and to help restore normal function. Many facial cosmetic surgeries are minimally invasive and can be performed in our office using local and/or intravenous anesthesia. Some procedures may require the use of an outpatient or same day surgery center, or hospital.
While a majority of patients report enhanced self-esteem and self-confidence following their procedure, it is important to remember that the goal of cosmetic surgery is to improve appearance. Facial cosmetic surgery may refine, enhance, and rejuvenate features that already exist. It will not give you a new face or a new life. Your age, health, skin texture, bone structure, healing capacity, and personal habits such as smoking, sun exposure, and alcohol consumption all play a role in the results of your surgery. Remember, the decision to have cosmetic surgery should not be entered into lightly. It is important to have realistic expectations for the results of your surgery, and to realize that the results of your surgery may not be immediately apparent. We will review your expected results and recovery time during your initial consultation.

No Time for Surgery? BOTOX® That Wrinkle or Crease!
BOTOX® (manufactured by Allergan) is Botulinum Toxin Type A, a powerful substance used to temporarily paralyze muscle function. Doctors have traditionally used BOTOX® Purified Neurotoxin Complex to relieve muscle spasms in the eye and facial region. As a result, physicians found that patients using BOTOX® for facial spasms also got the secondary benefit of smoother, younger looking skin around the injected areas.
Many patients complain that people are always asking them what’s wrong, or if they are tired, when everything is just fine. People tend to develop facial expression patterns by the age of six. Many people frown when concentrating heavily. Even smiling will wrinkle the skin around the mouth and eyes. The ideal candidate for BOTOX® is a person with strong facial expressions. Dr. Faerber can complete the injections in five to ten minutes with minimal discomfort. You’ll see an improvement within two days, and results last from three to six months. When the creases and lines return, you can simply stop in over your lunch break for another quick injection!
BOTOX® is a registered trademark of Allergan.
Cheek & Chin Implants
Many people have a chin that is too small for their face. When one has a lack of chin projection, the face is weakened. It can also make the nose look larger than it really is. For this reason, many patients will seek surgery to improve the appearance of the chin. This is accomplished in two ways.
First a small incision is made either underneath the chin or inside the mouth, and either one of the following is used:
- Genioplasty - An existing portion of the chin is brought forward and down to the desited placement.
- Implants: A small synthetic implant over the natural bone.
The operation can also greatly enhance the results of a facelift, since loss of chin projection may occur with aging. Chin augmentation is also commonly combined with facial liposuction, where fat is removed from under the chin and from the neck.
Cheekbone Augmentation High cheekbones have traditionally been a sign of beauty. Unfortunately, not everyone is born with that look. The procedure consists of placing a synthetic implant over the natural cheekbone. Implants come in a variety of sizes and shapes so that the cosmetic surgeon can select the proper one for each patient. Men also frequently seek this position to correct flatness in the mid face. As is the case with chin augmentation, the operation is frequently combined with other cosmetic procedures such as rhinoplasty or facelift. Additionally, it is frequently combined with chin augmentation.
How is a Cheekbone Augmentation Performed? A small incision is made inside the mouth in the crease above the upper lip. A sterile implant, similar to the consistency of the natural cheekbone, is placed over the natural cheekbone to increase its projection. The implant is secured and the incision is sutured closed. These procedures can be performed with either a local or general anesthetic, depending on the preferences of the surgeon and patient. The operations can be performed in the hospital or in an outpatient surgical suite.
How Will I Look After? Some swelling and bruising can be expected and usually subsides within the first two weeks. A tape of elastic dressing may be recommended for a period of time. Mild discomfort is usually easily controlled with medications prescribed by your cosmetic surgeon. After healing, the skin drapes smoothly over the implants. The implants themselves conform to the bone and are usually undetectable. The added projection of the chin should result in significant improvement which is especially apparent in the profile. The cheekbones can be expected to mimic natural high cheekbones.
What Are the Risks? There are risks in any surgical procedure. In rare circumstances, an implant may have to be removed or changed due to unexpected problems. This can usually be done with little difficulty. Occasionally, there may be numbness from the surgery. You should discuss all the benefits and risks with your cosmetic surgeon.
